..of the few spoilt, incorrigible and pampered ONES !

I have been teaching in the CCSP programme for about two years and in that time I have taught Class 1 to Class 30 of the CCSS programme which totalled up to about 500 odd students, about 100 students from the CDDS and the least from the CBDS of about lee than 40 students !

This total up to about 600 plus students.

Throughout this period my relationship with my students had been very good and close. Sure there were disciplinary problem like coming late , not submitting assignments and so on. But these had alwasy been resolved by the students themselves because they it is and has always been THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to see to this.

However , my biggect disappointment, no, not disappointment , but DISGUST on the attitude and behaviour of a small group of students in terms of meeting the programme expectation and fullfiling the basic human decency.

To me the law of average doesn't work here because I taught 500 odd students in two courses and there no such problems. But the group with the least students is the one with the worst .

But I would like to sumarise what happened on the day itself. Basically, the problemlies with the attitude of just TWO person who were almost 4 weeks overdue in submitting their TOPIC for the report. Their classmates were already at various stages of progress. They were told off last week about this and generally their attitude towards their work the week before.

Now their strategy is so simple and obvious. As their defence , change the issue to me and not the fact of their attitude. So they had a meeting and come with their 'brilliant' idea of covering their dirt. And that is TO FIND FAULT WITH ME , PROFESSIONALLY AND PERSONALLY !!!

PROFESSIONALLY

THESE ARE THEIR RIDUCULOUS ALLEGATIONS!

1. This class of 20 about student saccused me of not allowing them to ask questions ! Their example (only one given ). That a girl asked me a question and I said "You should know this!".

My answer ? It was such an obvious question. Its like someone asking you, "Sir do I have to submit my assignments?" ----How would you answer !!!!

To the 500 odd students that I have taught before---have I ever been guilty of this mad accusation when I was teaching you ??

2. That I once commented a girl's work as 'rubbish'! and apparently these grand students think that is insulting.

First -the word 'rubbish' has evolved that it does not meant trash only . It is also taken as nonsensical where it can almost mean a silly, ridiculous and stupid mistake !

Sometimes ignorance can lead to many things to embarass yourself!

PERSONALLY

These personal attack came about because they ran out of arguements and excuses when I counter answered their rediculous charges. (Sometime I wonder why I wasted my time entertaining such people!)

1. They say I'm always angry when I come into their class, which was a total lie. (Again--I believe my 500 ex students will vouch for this.). When they were proven wrong they say it was my voice. What they are saying is that THEY CAN NEVER DO ANY WRONG ! tHEY ARE ALWAYS RIGHT ! NEVER MIND EVERYTHING ELSE---LIKE COMING LATE, NOT KNOCKING ON THE DOOR WHEN THEY CAME IN THE CLASS, READING THE NEWSPAPER WHEN I WAS TEACHING, NOT KEEPING UP TO SCHEDULE AND SO ON !

2.They say something about my face or facial expression ! They say it shows I am angry ! THE IMPLICATION OF THIS IS THAT THEY DON'T LIKE MY FACE ! I TOLD THEM THAT TOO BAD BECAUSE THEIRS ARE NOT AS ATTRACTIVE AS WELL!!!

IN MY 38 YEARS IN THE EDUCATION LINE I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SUCH RUBBISH EXCUSES---AND THIS TIME I USE THE WORD 'RUBBISH' IN ALL ITS MEANING .

NOW MY CONCLUSION.

THAT SOME PEOPLE WILL CLUTCH AT EVEN A WET NEWSPAPER WHEN THEY ARE DROWNING - HOPING THAT IT WOULD SAVE THEM !

I MADE CROSS REFERENCING AND FOUND THAT OTHER LECTURES HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME STUDENTS HERE.

THE PARTICULAR CLASS IS ALSO KNOWN BY THE ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF FOR THE WRONG REASON.

THESE PEOPLE HAVE TO LEARN THAT RESPECT IS EARNED --NOT GIVEN, AND SO FAR THEY HAVE NOT EARNED MY RESPECT, AND THOSE WHO DID HAVE ACTUALLY ERODED THEM .

AND FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THIS BLOG, I HAVE A MALAY PROVERB FOR THEM , WHICH I DID GIVE THEM BEFOR I FINISHED YESTERDAY,

They would probably laughed at this but I hope they wouldn't because if I were to give an English proverb --- THEY MIGHT NOT UNDERSTAN IT , CONSIDERING EVERYTHING ELSE !!!!

At the end of the session a representative wanted to apologize on behalf of the class---I stopped her as I do not want somenone innocent to do their dirty job. I told them its their prerogative to apologise AND ALSO MY PREROGATVIVE NOT TO FORGIVE !

( This is not directed to those in that class { and there are many} who had had no problemS with me . AND I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT THERE ARE GOOD HARD-WORKING STUDENTS - perhaps they need to be more independent mentally.)

ps. In my teaching experience in Malaysia, I had had the experience of teaching students who are children of Tan Sris, multi-millionaires, prominent politicians and a college well-known for the best brains who did their 'A' Level where some of them end up in Cambridge , Oxford and the best Universities of the United States. And 99% of them are Chinese. Some of these students even have their bodyguards waiting outside the class-rooms.

But never , not even once, did I have any bad experience in terms of attitude or work. They had been so humble, respectful and hard-working. Not once did I experience arrogance, inspite of their background.

Need I say more ? I think not.
