I was bit reluctant cos if u look at the winners from last year half of the photos dont even fall in the... what we call "By definition" PORTRAIT.

So who will decide what is portrait and what is not? I think it will be personal choice of the judges than, and cant complain since they clearly mention "'Portrait' may be interpreted in its widest sense" . But there r no proper guidelines provided, what I may still call portrait they might not and vice versa, specially if participants are spending money I would have preferred exact boundries or complete freedom.

Agree wth you when I read the definition of 'Portrait'. It opens to anything and everything and will be opened to the whims and fancies of the judges.

Even the "stories' category is rather vague.

Oh well.....I might send one for the hell of it ....thats all.

you're welcome sunnysideup... :)

I'm not a serious photographer..nor have a good camera to shoot photo..
I don't know the exact concept of portrait they mention about..but the 'story' category seems interesting..it's like, an art concept..to capture a picture that can explains thousands of stories behind it...and explains the photographer's hard work to give life to a photo..that's just my honest opinion..

same goes to me, sunnysideup. if i owned a digital camera, i would probably send one just for the sake of...emm..dunno..relieve maybe. or else i can't sleep and keep thinking about it. who knows the luck of non-professional's hand.. ;)
oh well, the passion is there..unfortunately, i only have a 3megapixel handphone camera..haha. so, that means a next time for me..

Joethel, for the story its normally a series of photos and yes I always like the concept. Its like number of photos where a story will begin, reach its climex and end. and see again there is no mention of how many photos can be in a series, 5 or 50 ? :p

Nicely said JoEtheL. Thats what I though the Story category is about. But you put it down nicely.

I already have a few plans in mind and will soon work on it.

Its important to have the passion first. I know a few who goes round and achieved some good shot with their camera-phone.
In fact if you looked back in my much earlier postings, I started posting photos from my 2.0 megapixel camera photo. Someone from PJ, a total stranger , even suggested in his comments that I should look around for even a second hand digital slr camera since I have the interest in photography. That was about a year or so ago!

So, I know, you will, .....one day..............
