The Mad Never Ending Torture

The mad Never ending torture - or the acronym TmNet, --thats what I went through a few weeks ago. I do not know which is worse, being without internet , or having to listen to the ugliest sound over and over again for a few hours.

However when the technician did come to my house , I have to say that they are nice, polite and most of all effective in solving the problem.

This is what I had to go through and hope will never have to again in future.

MAYA - My favourite Korean female rocker !

Love her voice and style.

Wouldn't it be cool if.......

.
Hey ! wouldn't it be cool if someone (not me ) could organize a function for the members of our community ! It could be anything---a meal, dinner, barbeque, a trip,.... a bowling tournament............

Anyone  ? Any takers ?

The silly season of Sesame Street songs for Saturday and Sunday

First, there a lot of 'asses' in the title of this posting.

Sesame Street---one of the cartoons my son grew up with. From as young as 2 + , this programme would be telecasted on Saturday mornings and he would be glued to the TV.

One of the songs from this programme which we all enjoyed , is Manamana. Mush later on, quite by coincident, we had our dearest pet cat for 12 years . 'His' name ? Mana . ( But thats another story.

Heres a clip of this song and people love to take the mickey of this song with their own version.

Its All About Hanging !

See helas, there are more than one way to get hanged ! So there's a lot of hanging to be done.  By the way, you don't want to work in this hotel !

Re post---'Don't You Hate It ?'

Don't you hate it...

…when you have been queueing for what seems like hours to pay your highway toll, when the driver in front of you would only start looking for his ticket or change to pay the toll

...when your phone rings and the caller asked you who you are instead of introducing himself

...waited in a long queue to use the ATM, and when it comes to your turn, “ OUT OF SERVICE” started flashing

…when the traffic lights turn green, the drivers in front of you take ages to start moving wth gaps between them that can fill two to three cars

---and the lights turn red when it comes to your turn.…when you step in any store , and the saleman or salesgirl follows you wherever you go like an eagle hovering above its victim

… when you call an unknown number which appears on your phone as a ‘miss-call’, and the person at the other end denies ever calling you.…when you accidently pressed a paying channel over Astro and it takes ages to switch to other channel as the ‘loading’ process starts

......when someone starts a conversation with you with , " You know what ? "

......when you are ready to celeberate , but your favourite football team lost the match

....when taxi drivers asked where you want to go before accepting you as a passenger

DO YOU HAVE ANY OF YOUR OWN ? and don't give...

....when someone keeps reminding you that your favourite team lost the finals ! ( this one is over mentioned already ! )

...

Breaking news for panda lovers ! Twins born on 27 May 2009 !

AFP/File – Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui, play together as they stay at Chiang Mai Zoo in northern Thailand in 2005. …

Lin Hui is the mother of the twins !

AP – In this photo released by Chiang Mai Zoo, a new born baby panda sits in the hands of a veterinarian .

Great news for animal lovers. I heard it over the astro news this evening , and searching the web, I found the actual news.

Chiang Mai Zoo have reported that a panda in their zoo has given birth to a twin . Apparently, the zoo authority artificially inseminated the female panda in February , but there was no sign at all that she was pregnant. Read more here.

According to AFP report here .

"Giant pandas, notorious for their low sex drive, are among the world's most endangered animals. Nearly 1,600 pandas are believed to survive in the wild in China and about 180 are being raised in captivity in zoos worldwide."

You may ask me why the interest ! I have always been interested on this species which at one time was facing extinction.

The pandas have many pecularities. Let  me highlight certain points taken from here.

--The panda first appeared 2 to 3 million years ago.

--Today, pandas are found in six isolated forest areas in Sichuan, Gansu, and Shaanxi provinces in China.

--Pandas live in high , usually from 2,700 to 3,700 meters  above sea level

--For years, scientists have argued about whether the panda is more closely related to the bear or the raccoon

--some characteristics common to bears, but other characteristics are not

--Recent DNA / serological studies have determined that the panda is more closely related to bears than to raccoons.

--adult panda is typically 1.5 meters long  and weighs about 75 to 135 kilograms  Males are 10% to 20% heavier than female

--Pandas are most active at twilight and night and slow in the day

--Their fur is slightly oily which prevents water penetration in the cool, damp climate where the pandas live.

--Pandas now feed almost exclusively on the stems and leaves of bamboo. Although, ninety-five to ninety-nine percent of the pandas' diet is bamboo, they also eat flowers, vines, mushroom, grass, fish, and small rodents.

--Pandas also communicate vocally. They have up to 11 distinct calls

--Pandas breed once a year. Mating season is from March to May

--Pandas are the second most threatened species in the world. Only about 1000 pandas are estimated to live in the wild.

--Destruction of the panda's natural habitat is now the major threat to their existance

So far, The United States, Japan and Thailand are the only countries outside China  to have bred pandas through artificial insemination.

Now , tell me these are not interesting!

So--what about today !

above - on the way to CM

Other than seeing some of my students mourning the loss suffered by their dream team ( guess it left them dreaming of what could have been ..), what else happened today !

With a group of students, we went to Central Market . No, we didn't go there as tourists, we went there with a mission. Nothing grand or 'mission-impossible' type of activities!

No, we went there to a place (recommended by a CBDS student actually) to customize a t-shirt design. Nithing special--its just that we seem to get many custom-designed t-shirts that we thought , why not one ourselves just for laughs.

Anyway, we arrived at the shop in Central Market but the person was not in. A quick call to the one who recommended us and we were told that he would be back in 10 minutes.

So we decided to have our lunch at the food court. Now just a few years ago, I was attached to Cosmo Bangkok Bank which is just round the corner - and I just about took my lunch every other day at this food court.

Since then, I have no reeason to come here and I was shocked with the change. Its such a pleasant place now . The air-con is effective and comfortable and the stalls are better and with more and better varieties.

We each ordered at separate stalls. I went to a 'nasi kandar'stall - one of the cleanest I've ever seen in KL.  I picked, a plate of plain rice, three pieces of tandoorie chicken, salad of cucumber, chilli and pineapples and curry.  The cost ? A mere RM 2 !!!! Can you believe that ?? In KL ?

Anyway we were soon back at the shop and discussing t-shirts, colours, collared or round-necked , designs, re-design, colours, wordings and costs.  The man in charged is a pleasant guy and he impressed me with his Adobe skills in re-creating our deign.

So, out of curiousity, I asked him if he was a business man first or a computer guy first. His answer shocked us further. He said he has been in this business for 8 years and only studied to use Adobe a month ago because he had to pay RM 25 for this service before and thought he could save cost by doing it himself.

Hey bro Halim --I take off my hat to you !

Anway, we soon finished our business and went on our way home. So for some hours, I stopped looking at blogs !

Is Football for * * * * * * ?

UPDATES !
But this is tragic news which I got here.
This has nothing to do with the post below , but it is tragic if people get emotional over trival matters. Read some of it here.
'Man Utd fan kills four in Nigeria'

4 hours 18 mins ago

A Manchester United fan in Nigeria has allegedly killed four people when he drove into a crowd of Barcelona supporters after his team's Champions League defeat.
Police said the crowd in the town of Ogbo were celebrating Barcelona's victory when the minibus drove into them.
A police spokeswoman said ten people were injured and the driver was arrested.
She said: "The driver had passed the crowd then made a U-turn and ran into them."
Barcelona beat Manchester United 2-0 in what has been hailed as a "dream final" between two of Europe's best clubs.
Both teams have large fan bases in Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation.

"Manchester United fan stabbed in Rome; arrests made in separate incidents"
"Manchester United 0 Barcelona 2: Match report"
.......screamed the headlines...
Sorry Ameen ! And Anys, stop smiling now, you hear ?
Well . I didn't mean to open up old wounds, but this morning I heard over the radio in my car of the news of The Defeat. (I put those in capitals because ...) and I told myself, " Oh oh ! I'm not going to get any posting from Ameen now !"heheheh.
Never mind Ameen, if its any consolation to you, its a good thing that the class debate , "Football is for Idiots" was held before the match, otherwise Anys would have extra ammunition.
Are there any other MU fans mourning this 'shocker'? Well I guess my class attendance is going to drop like nothing this morning !
My condolence to you and you and you and you and you and you.......and Anys--stop grinning...I know you are......

My second surprise today ! & Rock Camp revisited !

Annuar's partner in crime--baby shah (above 2 photos)

...and gang ..and 'the godfather'

Annuar--after being mutilated !

helas -  the famous digi-man

annuar ( with green cap) and gang

Today I had two pleasant surprises. The first? I’ve already posted it a few postings away in which I met helas in (of all the places) Wisma Sime Darby.

My second surprise happened in the office, and it comes in the shape of one of my many ex favourite students – Annuar !

Now, like many others, he always has a ready smile whenever we met! Call him jovial, happy –he is all positive rolled into one ---to me anyway.

Its funny that just for today, I met two ex students, doing their OJT at two separate places BUT, staying in the same unit ! THAT is a co-incident.

Anyway, back to Annuar. I remember his ‘partner-in-crime’ –Baby Shah -we call him. He is anything but a baby size – more like a junior Sumo wrestler. Each of them has his own peculiar sense of humour. They are fun, reliable and easily likeable.

This characteristics of theirs really showed up at the first camp, The Rock Camp.

I reproduce photos of them and the ‘digi-man’ helas ! They were fun.

In fact, he expressed genuine regret on missing the last camp. Incidentally, the Woods Camp was discovered by him when he was surveying for me new camp-sites after the Rock Camp.

Unfortunately for him (but fortunate for those who went to the Woods Camp) , the plan was delayed and he had to miss it.

As it is, helas (bless him) is  one of my ex-students who is still actively keeping in touch with me. There are others also, through YM and so on who are still maintaining an open channel with me.

Anyway, it was good to see you Annuar and even better on knowing that he is now settled in a soon-to-be permanent job. Yes, we’ll make it a point to make that trip a reality!

Do you do this ?

I know many students of mine , are big fans of MU. I wonder if they do this when MU wins a match !

Idioms for everyone.

According to , http://www.edict.com.hk/vlc/idioms/idiomdef.htm  , an idiom is'

‘A group of words with a meaning of its own that is different from the meanings of each separate word put together’
                                                - Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English

Here are some examples of idioms taken from http://useit.vn/content/view/686/122/lang,english/

If you are chicken, you are not brave enough to do something.

Come on, Hisham, don't be such a chicken, sing us a song.

..to have butterflies in your stomach.

Very nervous or excited before doing something important such as giving a speech and taking a test.

I know you have butterflies in your tummy before your presentation.

...to get cold feet

If you get cold feet, you become afraid to do something that you planned to do or agreed to do.

If a person is a couch potato, he/she is not active and spends most of his/her time sitting and watching TV.

With the World Cup coming soon, Ameen is going to be a couch potato.

To eat your words is to admit that what you said was wrong.

They had to eat their words when the truth was revealed.

Dear John is a letter from a woman to her boyfriend or husband telling him that she doesn't love him anymore.

Poor guy---he was down in the dumps (see below) after receiving a dear john letter from his girl friend.

If you are down in the dumps, you feel very sad and miserable. You don't have much interest in life.

There's nothing in the fridge, so lets eat out tonight.

...make head nor tail..

I can't make head nor tail of what thet lecturer wants us to do as he keeps changing his mind !

So, these are just some example from the link I provided above. Hop on to it as there are more to find out !

SUURRPRISSE !!!!

.
After class, I went to the Rhumba Cafe for my usual drink at Wisma Sime Darby.
While walking in the lobby, something made me turn around , and I did, and guess what !
There running behind me was ---
helas !!
We had a very quick chat before he rushed to the lifts.
Apparently he came with his boss (who was waiting in the car) to submit some documents to one of the companies.
What a coincidence !
We were just talking about him in my class.
So before he writes in his blog, I guess I'll beat him to it and do so before he does !!!
.
